A baby asleep in a lean-to in the midst of the dense jungles of Thailand. There was no one else visible to me. It was as though the child was being protected by some unknown source. The parents were possibly out working, gathering food, or even observing us from a distance. On one hand the aloneness of this child was rather disturbing, while on the other hand, the scene was serene, peaceful and quite natural. The colors of the blanket were brilliant against the starkness of the lean-to, and the baby’s face was almost doll-like. After making several sketches and photographs, I went on my way, still wondering about the real circumstances.
