TAJ MAHAL
(India)

Oil on Canvas - 40" x 32"

The Taj Mahal is located in Agra, and was built in 1634 by Shah Jahan for his favorite wife, Mumtaz Mahall (chosen of the Palace). The most popular vantage point is the more symmetrical entrance, but I was taken by this somewhat softened perspective. It is a commonly held view that the Taj represents heartbroken devotion. It is also thought that the original plan was to build a matching structure of black marble for the Shah himself, but this never came to pass.
