WALKING
IN GRACE
(U.S.A.)
Oil
on Canvas - 40" x 32"
| She walked in toe-heel step in time with the drum,
as she entered into the Powwow Grand Entry. Her elegance could
not be overlooked.. She is a Buckskin Dancer, which is a highly
respected women’s dance. It is a slow and poised dance
in which they bob to the beat of the drum, letting the long fringe
on their sleeves sway in time. She danced with such pride and
poise, almost floating across the floor, and there was almost
a purity in her white buckskin dress. She carried a beaded purse,
a shawl, folded on the arm. These as well as the long fringe
on her dress swayed to the beat of the drum. This beautiful woman
also carries a peyote fan. The beadwork on the dress is in the
design of the circle of the four corners: East representing
peace and light; South representing warmth; West representing
rain; and North with its cold and mighty wind representing strength
and endurance. She seems to encompass this. |
