MAASAI
CHILD I
(Tanzania,
Africa)
Oil on Canvas
- 24" x 18"
| While on a trip to Tanzania, Africa, to climb
Mt. Kilimanjaro, I also visited a Maasai village on the rim of
the Ngorongoro Crater. In the schoolhouse in the village, I saw
this young child. The Maasai adore children, and they are treated
with great tenderness and love. It is an important part of their
culture to pass on the pride of heritage. She, like the other
children, didn’t seem to care what clothes they wore or
what possessions they had. The classrooms are bare, they have
few, if any, supplies like books and paper, but they have an
eagerness to learn and to understand. Her innocent and curious
face and eyes are full of hope. |
